One of America's favourite stand-up comedians did not appeal to the masses at one of his latest performances. Page Six reports that when Chris Rock took the stage at the Comedy Cellar in New York this past week, he made fun of some serious topics that are making major headlines - sexual harassment.
A patron who attended the show tells the publication that Chris said he would no longer hire women because he would need a crew of witnesses by his side at all times, in case he was accused of rape. He joked that he wouldn't even hire a cleaning lady.
“They cry rape because they want money,” Chris apparently said.
“I’ve seen him before and he was hysterical, but this wasn’t funny at all,” one woman tells Page Six. “Nobody was laughing. There were many boos and many women who were telling him he was a sexist pig. Two people got kicked out.”
Although Chris was urged to change the topic to something lighthearted like him growing up in Brooklyn, he allegedly kept going back to sexual harassment topics and even brought up Harvey Weinstein's name where he said, “Weinstein fucked with me by trying to have me star in the worst movies of all time."
A representative form Chris's team and the comedy club gave no comment to the publication.
The number of sexual assault claims that have recently surfaced in Hollywood is jaw-dropping. Many in the industry say the claims that make headlines are just the tip of the iceberg. The last allegations go against House Of Cards actor Kevin Spacey, who was alleged to have inappropriately approached Anthony Rapp when he was only 14-years-old. Kevin tweeted an apology to the Star Trek: Discovery actor saying he does not remember the encounter.
"But if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years," he tweeted.
