The man behind Marvel Studios gives some insight into where the "Avengers" franchise is headed.

The latest chapter in the Avengers franchise, the biggest blockbusters that the Marvel Comics brain trust have brought to the big screen, debuted a new trailer last week to rave reviews and enthusiastic reaction from fans all across the globe. The finished film drops on May 4, 2018, but the man running the MCU has revealed some of the long-term plans that await the heroes who make up the Avengers cast of characters.

Both Marvel and Disney have been not-so-secretly preparing for possible exits of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner in the near future. However, even with the prospect of losing some of their most recognizable faces, Marvel's studio head Kevin Feige doesn't seem at all phased by the next chapter in the MCU's cinematic journey.

"22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before," he told Vanity Fair, hinting that this has been set up intentionally. In the same way that the Star Wars movies are also gearing up for a more in-depth exploration of its galaxy, with added storylines and characters, Feige says that the next steps in the Marvel Universe will look awfully similar.

"Avengers 4 will bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale," he continued. "There will be two distinct periods. Everything before ‘Avengers 4’ and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.” While the expectations attached to the fourth Avengers installment will be sky-high, it's only fitting since Feige is laying the groundwork for potentially the greatest superhero movie ever made.
