After a relatively slow start to 2017, Miguel is looking to close out the year on high note. Back in August, the R&B singer dropped off a new single with Travis Scott called “Sky Walker,” which served as the first single off Miguel’s long awaited fourth studio album. Since then however, Miguel has been slowly revealing further details on the album piece by piece. First he announced the title, War & Leisure while visiting Stephen Colbert at the end of September, and then he debuted another song last week at the “Schools Not Prison” benefit concert in California, before returning to the scene yesterday to share the official album cover, but now after months of anticipation we finally have a release date for the long awaited album.
On Friday, Miguel decided to make War & Leisure available for pre-order on Tunes, ultimately revealing its release date in the process, which will be December 1st. From what we can see of the tracklist, the album will also consist of 12 records, the previously heard “Sky Walker” & the newly-released “Told You So,” which was accompanied by a new music video today as well (see below).
Directed by Karim Hu Doo, the video finds Miguel cruising through the desert, stopped in his tracks by ominous explosions in the background, with flashbacks and premonitions of world destruction. “A little over a year ago, Karim Hu Doo and I created one of my favorite visuals for one of my favorite songs on War & Leisure called Told You So,” Miguel said about the video in his IG post Thursday.
War & Leisure will serve as Miguel’s 4th studio album, following the success of his critically-acclaimed albums Wildheart, Kaleidescope Dream and All I Want Is You.
Check out the official video for “Told You So” (below) and look for the album to drop in 4 weeks from today. December 1st can't come soon enough. Who's excited to hear Miguel's new album?
In other related news, Miguel is also set to lend his voice, alongside Mexican pop singer Natalie Lafourcade, to the song "Remember Me" from the upcoming Pixar film, Coco, coming out later this month. So stay tuned, there’s plenty more from Miguel coming very soon.
