She's unashamedly putting it out in the universe that she wants to work with Rihanna, and we can't blame Saweetie at all. The Bay Area hitmaker joins thousands of other creatives who wish to one day link in the studio with the billionaire mogul. The two ladies share a commonality: no one knows when either of them will release their next album. Rihanna hasn't given us a full-length record since 2016's Anti, and Saweetie has been mapping out her official debut album, Pretty B*tch Music, for years.
While it seems RiRi has been busy building her billionaire Fenty brand and welcoming babies into the world, Saweetie's fans aren't sure what's keeping her project on ice. The "My Type" hitmaker caught up with Metro UK to discuss her phantom release that apparently has "more collaborations" than her fans will expect. Again, she insists the album is close to being completed. "Definitely way before the end of the year," she said of its date. "I’m working on the album, I’m really focused on my craft right now."
Saweetie Is In Full Swing
As she edges closer to Prety B*tch Music's arrival, Saweetie details what's next. "I’m about to drop some treatments and collaborate some," she revealed. "Direct with some directors to shoot some new music videos." Of course, Metro UK wanted to know who Saweetie's dream collaboration would be. Without hesitation, she named the "Rude Boy" star. "I definitely want to work with Rihanna. [The Super Bowl] wasn’t even a game, it was the Rihanna concert." So, what kind of song would it be? "[We would] release a dance record to get the party going."
We'll have to wait and see if Rihanna is down to connect, but her hands are full these days. Meanwhile, it has been an arduous journey for Saweetie to get her debut to streaming services. It was reportedly supposed to arrive in 2021, but that year, Saweetie revealed she was locked in boot camp. The rapper was working on her craft, and later, a conversation with Cher would push her release date back even further.
Advice From Cher
“I thought [the album] was done, but after I met her, I had an epiphany," Saweetie said in 2021. "This album needs to have feelings, it needs to have soul, it needs to have spirit. And I have a lot of room for improvement, so I’m gonna work on that. And once it’s done, the album will be released.”
