Macklemore's new solo album Gemini is due out this Friday, September 22nd. From what we've heard so far, despite being the rapper's first project without producer Ryan Lewis in many years, it will be a highly collaborative LP. After sharing a new track with Kesha earlier this week, Macklemore has put out an outtake from the album called "Change," which pairs him with Ben Abraham. Billed as a demo, the song is spare and intimate. The drumless track works well with Macklemore's freeform, conversational flows, and hits its emotional peak on Abraham's soulful hook, which is complimented by horns and a gospel choir.
The Seattle rapper recently spoke of a serious car accident he was involved in during an appearance on The Breakfast Club. He was struck head-on by a drunk driver in Washington earlier this month and was lucky to walk away with not only his life, but no serious injuries to speak of either. "I was with my nephews in the car," he said. "14-year-old in the front, 10-year-old in the back [...] we were driving home, driving them to the hotel. Guy came, taking a turn that you should've probably taken at 15 mph, he was probably going 50. [It was] that split-second of 'am I gonna die?' I had never been in a car accident like that. I've been in fender benders and whatnot but that was... it was scary man."
Skylar Grey, Lil Yachty, and Migos' Offset are also set to appear on Macklemore's new project. The rapper previewed the lively "Willy Wonka" with Offset in a video posted to Twitter. You can watch it here.
Macklemore's Gemini tour kicks off in October. Check out the full list of dates.
