Tiger Woods entered a plea of not guilty at his hearing this morning, stemming from his DUI arrest in May.
According to the AP, Woods, who was not in the courtroom today, is expected to enter a diversion program on October 25th in order to have his charges dropped and keep him out of jail.
The AP reports,
"Under the plea deal, prosecutors will drop the DUI charge from his arrest in May when he was found asleep in his Mercedes-Benz, apparently under the influence of a prescription painkiller and an anti-insomnia drug. No alcohol was found in his system."
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, cops came upon Woods asleep in his car with the engine running and his right blinker flashing. He "had extremely slow and slurred speech."
Woods reportedly told cops he was "coming from L.A. California from golfing" but then changed his story and said he didn't know where he was. He took a field sobriety test and failed badly.
Not long after the arrest, the 14-time major champion explained on social media,
“I’m currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder,” Woods said. “I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding especially the fans and players on tour.”
Tiger has not played golf competitively since withdrawing from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic after the opening round back in February.
