New Orleans based duo $uicideboy$, made up of members Ruby Da Cherry and $lick$ $loth (along with their myriad alternate aliases), are ready to unleash a barrage of new music on September 11th. Next week, the duo will be dropping five EPs, expanding the macabre and rugged narrative of The Kill Youself Saga. And don't get it twisted - despite rocking a name that might suggest otherwise, $uicideboy$ are anything but "emo." In fact, their dark, minimalist production and flows have earned the group comparisons to the legendary Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's earlier work.
Their latest track, "For The Last Time," finds the boys going in over an eerie soundscape, driven by a distant saxophone wail and a haunting piano loop. The low key banger is filled with violent, horrorcore imagery, with demons, Sleepy Hollow, and casual acts of mass murder. $loth, rapping under the alias Lil Choppa, delivers an impressive flow switch, breaking up an earlier scheme to spit "Suicide when I ride bitch, Scarecrow the walking shadow, Mozart with no piano, kill when I'm sleepy Hollow, that mystic motherfucker that's addicted to prescriptions, Xanax for the panic, mental problems you can add in."
As you can see, Xanax continues to establish its foothold as hip-hop's drug o' choice. There seems to be a friendly competitive spirit between both rappers (who are also best friends and cousins), and neither one ultimately ends up outdoing the other. It's a testament to their chemistry, and while their music may not be for everyone, it's starting to catch on in a big way. The legendary Juicy J has actually tapped the $uicideboy$ to handle the bulk of production work on his upcoming album Highly Intoxicated, and judging from some of the snippets, the boys brought some fire.
