Following his recent coming out, iLoveMakonnen made the headlines again when rap supergroup Migos caused some controversy Wednesday. If you've been wondering where the "Tuesday" rapper was during the brouhaha, well then look no further; iLoveMakonnen moved to Portland.
He moved to town last September. The Atlanta native admitted that living in the largest city in Oregon, encouraged him to come out of the closet.
"Portland is a place where everyone is being themselves, so I just felt like, I'm living here, and I want to be able to be myself," Makonnen told the Willamette Week. "I guess that's why I call it my home now."
When asked why he chose a town rather known for its indie rock scene, Makonnen said he wanted to "get away from the city."
"But still be kind of in a city," the 27-year-old singer-rapper said. "This was my No. 1 choice."
The emcee also mentioned he favored the area for its close proximity to nature and its legalization of marijuana. He said he's getting acquainted with the local hip hop scene as well.
