Lupe Fiasco is working towards the release of his next album DROGAS light. Last Monday he released a song called "Killers." This afternoon he shared an unmixed called "N.E.R.D." that he recently recorded in Lincoln, Nebraska.
"N.E.R.D." is a freestyle over J. Cole's "Everybody Dies," which uses the beat from A Tribe Called Quest's "Lyrics to Go." Lupe has always identified as a nerd, at last as far as back as his 2006 mixtape Fahrenheit 1/15 Part II: Revenge Of The Nerds. If Lupe can maintain the quality of that mixtape series on his upcoming trilogy -- DROGAS, DROGAS light*, and SKULLS -- we will all win.
Quotable Lyrics
Too many best rappers, not enough best rhymes tho
Guess I’m delusional, used to doing it all the time so
Maybe I’m just jaded, out of touch and unrelated
Unable to connect greatness based on the person who makes it
Or maybe I just hate it/And that would make me hater
Maybe it is great but that don’t mean it’s raider
Having your profile raised doesn’t make you a raiser
Being ambiguous with assertions, isn’t making you safer
