After dropping the Live From Rocky Mountain mixtape earlier this year, Derin Falana is back with another new record called "What I Know." Since he first emerged as The Flan, the Brampton rapper has always been versatile, hopping between pop-minded R&B, traditionalist boom bap, and hard, Toronto-centric rap. His new record finds him doing the last of those styles, putting his best mean mug on over an icy, bass-driven instrumental. Keeping things dark and confrontational, Derin questions the authenticity of his peers. He inflects his verses with a fair dose of melody, making his lines as catchy as they are braggy. Lucidox, who provided production across Falana's last project, is once again behind the boards. The song recently appeared in the new TV show Greenleaf on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Live From Rocky Mountain is available for stream and download here.
Quotable Lyrics:
I re'd up on some inspiration when I hit the summit
You're unaware of all the ammo I'm prepared to come with
I watch you people think you got it can no longer take it
I am a vertex in this city you are all adjacent
What I Know
