When it comes to rap and R&B, Brampton is one of the more promising scenes in the GTA, producing the likes of Tory Lanez, Wondagurl, and more recently, Derin Falana. Formerly known as The Flan, Derin has been toeing the line between rapping and singing on his material, always adding melodic compliments to his material, even if not in his vocals. "West" is an extremely colorful record based on the heavily filtered vocal sample alone, informing the subtle notes worked into Falana's bars. It once again illustrates his talent as a songwriter on all fronts, always putting structure and dynamics as high as punchlines on his checklist.
