Love For Vic

Vic Spencer has made it clear that he's not in this to make friends. He opens his new track, with the sardonic declaration: "Vic Spencer, the worst rapper from Chicago / they want me out the city / as far as the Chi go." Vic has had some very public feuds with fellow rappers from Chicago -- namely Mick Jenkins -- but it hasn't stopped him from releasing some of the best back-to-basics rap the city has to offer.

He describes his new track on SoundCloud as a "lyrical exercise," and his approach is very traditional in that way. However, he never sounds stale in the way many rappers who stick to the book tend to, both due to his very clear skill and his outsized personality, which is used most effectively when he digs deep rather than lashing out.
