USA Network is prepping production for its upcoming series Unsolved: The Murders of Biggie and Tupac, a drama about the murders of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Deadline reports that Wavvy Jonez will play Biggie and Marcc Rose will play Tupac. Jonez was discovered by way of a national casting call and will be making his acting debut. Rose will reprise his role from the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton.
Unsolved is based on Murder Rap: The Untold Story of Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations, a 2011 memoir by former LAPD detective Greg Kading. Kading will serve as a consultant to the show. The People v. O.J. Simpson director Anthony Hemingway will direct and produce.
Rose spoke on the challenges of portraying Tupac in a 2015 interview on Ebro in the Morning: "I think, it was a lot of pressure to me because of who Pac was," he said. "It's like, if I'm coming out the gate, this is my first film, I gotta make sure that this is done right. I gotta make sure that how I portray him is realistic."
