Yasiin Bey and his recent creative partner, Chicago's Ferrari Sheppard, have been releasing songs regularly over the last little while, sharing the experimental "Hymn," on Tidal yesterday. They've now dropped another new recird called "Seaside Panic Room," which recalls the rock-influenced experiments of Bey's (the Mos Def) 2004 sophomore album, The New Danger. It's a slow, heavy groove, reminiscent of the sludgy second half of Black Flag's My War, but complimented with some dissonant piano chords that bring it in a more melodic direction, as Yasiin's snap into singing midway through the record explores. The duo are calling themselves Dec. 99th, and with all this new music, it seems a project can't be far away. What do you think of the rapper's newest direction?
