Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) has not released a proper album since 2009, but he's releasing new music under the name Dec 99th, his duo with Ferrari Sheppard. Last month they shared "Tall Sleeves." Last night they shared another song: "Local Time."
The song was recorded in Cape Town, Bey's adopted home despite his legal troubles pertaining to a bogus passport. Bey raps over raps Nirvana-eaque bass line (Krist Novoselic!) “The local time is always now," he writes in the SoundCloud caption. "Forever is a current event."
Is "Local Time" a good look for our old friend Yasiin?
Quotable Lyrics
The local time is now
Whoever ya are, no matter no how
The moon and the waves, the breeze and the clouds
Where ever you are, the local time is...
