NYC old head AZ has been quiet since dropping his track "Echo Park" with DJ Doo Wop back in February, but he's got an album in the works now. Doe Or Die 2 is coming soon, but for now AZ has left us with "Red Magic," a taste of the project.
Sampling The Brothers Johnson's breezy cover of Shuggie Otis' "Strawberry Letter 23" (which was a big hit in the '70s), AZ crafts much more menacing track than the sampling material would have you believe. He slyly references his career-making guest verse on Nas' Illamtic, saying that he was here "years before Nas' first release."
Quotable Lyrics:
Close caption, chose his role rappin'
Exposed to the cold, gotta close them doors back in
Stove action, he spittin' the flow flashin'
From dough stackin' to havin' them hoes yappin'
