Music legend Bob Dylan has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature.

For years, music fans dreamed that folk legend Bob Dylan (nee Robert Allen Zimmerman) would be acknowledged by the establishment as a brilliant poet, rather than just a pop culture icon. Fortunately for the Dylan-stans, that day of reckoning is upon us, as it has been announced that Bob Dylan is this year's recipient for this year's Nobel Prize in Literature, an unprecedented honor for a singer/songwriter. To justify their choice, the Nobel committee said they awarded Dylan with the prestigious title “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

A few years back, Pharrell Williams spoke in praise of the reigning poet king of hip-hop Kendrick Lamar, calling him the Bob Dylan of this generation. Given the changing mindset of the Nobel committee in recent years, could a rapper such as Kendrick, Tupac, or Kodak Black be a future recipient of this award? Time will tell folks. Check out the video below at 3:40 to see Kendrick discussing his title as "the Black Dylan," and click here to see Bob Dylan sing a rendition of Drake's "Hotline Bling."
