"Girls Trip" is now in the record books.

Girls Trip is now more than just Universal's little engine that could - it's a bona fide Hollywood record-setter.

According to Variety, the film surprised during its opening weekend, earning a very solid $31.2 million that put it just behind Dunkirk for the No. 2 spot at the domestic box office, Trip has continued to rake in the cash from ticket buyers, relying on strong critical reviews and positive word-of-mouth to propel it over the $100 million mark. It's the studio's sixth title to cross that threshold in 2017, but it's also perhaps, on paper, the least likely to do so. An R-rated raunchy comedy for women, it was somewhat uncharted waters, but now the cast and crew have been rewarded in a huge way.

Adding to the list of achievements for Girls Trip is that it is the first movie made by an all-black team to reach that financial milestone. As per Paper magazine, the key members of the production all coming from African-American backgrounds - including the director, screenwriters, producers and four lead cast members. It certainly is an accomplishment worth celebrating and some of those fine individuals took to social media to do just that. Check out some of the cast and crew reaction to the milestone below.

Having been in theaters for less than a month, the earning power of Girls Trip should only continue to grow and could potentially put it in the category of highest-grossing comedies of the year. A story about four lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans to partake in the wild atmosphere for the annual Essence Festival, friendships are reinforced and different sides to mostly straight-laced women are seen in technicolor. Also, like many brash comedies before them, there's enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make even the most die-hard film buff blush just a little. Starring Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish, the ensemble cast exhibits great chemistry and comic timing, but it's Haddish who is the movie's breakout star. A stand-up comedian who had begun to segue her career into TV and movie roles, she could be one of the big names in film for the foreseeable future.
