Griffin thinks Irving is likely to get traded.

The former GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers David Griffin is siding with his former point guard.

Griffin was on The Jump earlier today (August 7th) and talked briefly about Kyrie Irving's reported trade request that continues to make waves leading up to the NBA regular season, which tips off in October. Perhaps surprisingly, he applauded the All-Star point guard for showing "courage" to voice his displeasure and ask to shipped out of Cleveland.

When asked point blank if the PG is headed out of town, Griffin responded affirmatively. "I think Kyrie's going to end up getting traded," he said. "I don't think this is youth and ignorance. This is a guy who handled the situation exactly like he was supposed to. He went to Dan Gilbert privately and told him he thought he would be happier somewhere else. The worst thing this guy could have done is pretend to be all in and sink the ship from within." Strong words that perhaps Griffin may not have said if he still held the position of GM, but honest nonetheless.

In recent weeks, Kyrie has been repeatedly dragged on social media for wanting to bolt a team that is coming off of three straight Finals appearances. Only time will tell if a trade materializes and, wherever he goes, if that locker room situation will be better for his growth as a player.
