Earlier this week, Kyrie Irving mentioned that the Cleveland Cavaliers are in a "very peculiar place," and things are about to get much more peculiar.
There have been rumors that LeBron will leave Cleveland after the 2017-18 season, but Kyrie reportedly doesn't want to wait that long to get out from under his shadow.
According to a report by ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Kyrie asked to be traded during a meeting with the Cavs owner Dan Gilbert last week. Windhorst reports that Kyrie "wants to go play in a situation where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James."
Kyrie's agent, Jeff Wechsler, confirmed that the meeting took place, though he wouldn't confirm reports that a trade was requested.
Per ESPN,
"Kyrie and I had a meeting with Cavs leadership where we discussed many different scenarios in reference to Kyrie and his future with the team," Wechsler told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. "The basis of those discussions and what went on in those discussions are between the Cavs and us. We are respectfully going to keep those private."
LeBron was allegedly "blindsided and disappointed" when he found out about Kyrie's request.
