Two of the biggest draws in entertainment are teaming up to bring a superhero to TV.
Donald Glover, creator and star of Atlanta, is joining forces with Marvel to create a Deadpool animated series. According to Deadline, the show will land at FXX, a network that has been trying to entice a younger audience with more animated content. Said Nick Grad, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, "Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta."
This seems like the right collaboration at the right time. Glover has garnered much critical praise for FX’s comedy series Atlanta, which earned him a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice award. Meanwhile, FXX looks to capitalize on Deadpool's success at the box office, with a reported worldwide gross of $647 million.
