Despite taking a sizable L for getting shaded by the respected fashion designer Raf Simons a couple weeks ago, Kanye West and A$AP Mob associate Virgil Abloh may have some much-needed W’s on the way. According to a report from WWD, he’s being considered for the recently vacated creative director post at Givenchy.
Former Givenchy creative director Ricardo Tisci left his position last week after spending 12 years at the fashion house. He was also a friend of Kanye West’s, and all three worked on the packaging and artwork for Watch The Throne. Neither Abloh nor Givenchy comment on the specific rumor, but Abloh reiterated his desire, “to update and provide something new in the fashion industry by way of creating a project and using it as a case study on how to update a luxury house.”
Kanye and Virgil first linked up as fellow interns at Fendi before Virgil became ‘Ye’s creative director. Since launching his Off-White line in 2013, he’s quickly surpassed his collaborator’s Yeezy collection in terms of worldwide appeal.
We’ll report back in the coming weeks if Virgil Abloh is named creative director of Givenchy. He’s rumored to be up against designers Hedi Slimane and Olivier Rousteing.
