Gronk's HS basketball coach tells a hilarious "69" story.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has a special place in his heart for the number 69. In fact, it's actually surprising that he hasn't petitioned to change his number from 87 to 69.

The 27-year old can hardly contain himself whenever he, or anyone within earshot, references the number that is one less than 70 and his infatuation with 69 dates back to his high school days, as you'd expect.

In a recent interview with WPRI.com's Mark Dondero, Gronk's high school basketball coach at Williamsville North High School in Buffalo, Chuck Swierski, revealed one of the funniest Gronk x 69 stories to date.

"So we’re playing a home game and we have 68 points – now it’s not a blowout, but it’s not a particularly close game either. So he [Gronkowski] gets fouled and goes to the free throw line. He hits the first one to get us to 69 and the place goes nuts because he’s playing into it."

"On his next free throw, he purposely chucks the ball off the backboard and misses so the score would stay at 69 and then runs back on defense pointing at the scoreboard.”

Some things just never change.

Don't be surprised if he retires on the spot after catching his 69th career touchdown pass once he's healthy.
