Twitter users can now livestream videos with a 360-degree view. During a live video, viewers can move their screens around to get a 360-degree look at the scene of a particular broadcast. The 360-degree viewing capability, made available via Periscope -- owned by Twitter, allows users to experience the same field of view as the person who's broadcasting the live video. The enhancement is likely Twitter's attempt to compete with Facebook's live streaming success with Facebook Live.
The unveiling of the 360-degree viewing option was announced via Twitter's company blog on Wednesday. "Starting today, you can check out live, interactive 360 videos from interesting broadcasters and explore what’s happening with them. You’ll be able to get an inside look with well-known personalities and go behind the scenes at exclusive events," wrote Alessandro Sabatelli, Twitter's Director of AR and VR.
The ability to broadcast in 360 degrees is currently only available to select users, though anyone can watch the live videos with 360-degree access. A separate camera device must be attached to one's phone in order to share a 360-degree live video.
