All-encompassing "360" record deals are a relatively new phenomenon in the rap industry, with companies handling artists' touring, music, videos and merch in exchange for an increased percentage of the artist's revenue. While many rappers jumped at the chance to sign 360s when they first emerged on the scene, the negative repercussions have been numerous enough to dissuade younger artists from inking those type of deals. Wati Heru is one of them.
His new song "365" has him flexing his tireless indie cred with a mantra of "No 360s, 365." Produced Kemal, this track's a dose of classic NY realness in the arm of a rap landscape that disgusts Heru, who still has "billionaire dreams," but wants to achieve them on his own terms.
