By the time the next edition of Top Tracks drops, it'll almost be December, which means that in terms of music releases, we're entering the year's equivalent of garbage time. We've still got projects from The Weeknd, Childish Gambino, Gucci Mane, and Drake on the way in 2016, but beyond that, don't expect too many surprises in term of full-length projects. What you can bank on, though, are some new singles dropping in order to carry hype into the new year. Let's start shaping up that early 2017 release calendar.
Rick Ross comes in first place this week with three appearances to his name, and 2 Chainz, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj, Future, and Gucci all come in second with three apiece. New tracks barely missing the cut include Post Malone's "Patient" (#11), Young Thug's "Do It By Myself" (#12), Belly and Ty Dolla $ign's "Outkast" (#13), and Eminem's "Infinite (F.B.T. Remix)" (#14).
10. Rick Ross Feat. 2 Chainz & Gucci Mane - Buy Back The Block
Rozay's second release in two weeks, "Buy Back The Block" hasn't proved as successful as "Kyrie" yet, despite its guestlist, but it still crack the top ten. 2 Chainz and GuWop have both been on fire this year, killing every feature they touch, and in the months leading up to his new album Rather You Than Me, Ross would do well to take some cues from them. "Buy Back The Block" debuts at #10.
9. Childish Gambino - Redbone
Apart from trendy modern rap, the music genre with the biggest presence on Donald Glover's "Atlanta" was definitely classic R&B/Soul, so it should come as no surprise that his latest track under the name Childish Gambino first reads as something a spaced-out '70s singer would've put out. "Redbone" adds another layer of intrigue to Gambino's upcoming Awaken, My Love! in the wake of "Me And Your Mama," so get ready to experience that in just under two weeks. "Redbone" debuts at #9.
8. Mac Miller Feat. Anderson .Paak - Dang!
It recently went two whole weeks without appearing in our top ten, but it looks like you can't count Mac Miller's first Divine Feminine single out yet. The Anderson .Paak-assisted "Dang!" first dropped back on July 28th, and now more than three months later, it's still hanging on. In its 17th week out, the track drop two places from #6 to #8.
7. The Weeknd - Party Monster
We're now just four days away from The Weeknd's new album, Starboy, and in what will probably be the last drop before release day, Mr. Tesfaye decided to share two additional songs from the project late last week. "Party Monster" lacks the starpower of the second track (more on that in a minute), but it still managed to climb pretty high in just a few short days. "Party Monster" debuts at #7.
6. Nicki Minaj - Black Barbies
Rae Sremmurd, Mike Will Made It, and Gucci Mane currently have the number one song in the country, and to celebrate, Nicki Minaj dropped off a freestyle over Mannequin Challenge favorite "Black Beatles." Unfortunately for Nicki, her "Black Barbies" is easily the lowest-rated song that's made our top ten in quite some time, clocking in at an abysmal 37% user approval. "Black Barbies" debuts at #6.
5. Gucci Mane & Future - RR Trucks
The only track from Gucci Mane and Future's new Free Bricks 2 tape to make our list of their top collabs, "RR Trucks" perfectly sets the tone for the rest of their reunion record. Let's hope we hear more from this duo soon. "RR Trucks" debuts at #5.
4. DJ Khaled Feat. Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Future, August Alsina, Jeremih & Rick Ross - Do You Mind
The one song that dropped the very same day as Miller and .Paak's "Dang!" and hasn't once fallen out of the top ten is DJ Khaled and Co.'s "Do You Mind," which may have not been as successful as lead single "For Free" on the real charts, but on ours, it's not even close. Not only does it keep appearing, but it's also failed to stay on any downward trajectories for too long. In its 17th week out, "Do You Mind" rises one place from #6 to #5.
3. The Weeknd Feat. Daft Punk - I Feel It Coming
The Weeknd already had French electronic duo Daft Punk on the title track of his new album, but last week he shared another one that features the masked masterminds. "I Feel It Coming" doesn't feature any of their vocals, but the delay and reverb-laden song unmistakably bears their DNA in plenty of other ways. "I Feel It Coming" debuts at #3.
2. Rick Ross - Kyrie (Prod. By DP Beats)
Even though "Kyrie" debuted towards the bottom of our list last week, and the star-studded "Buy Back The Block" dropped in between, the former track is the week's big winner. To me, this sounds more like a hype loosie than something that will appear on Rozay's upcoming album, but if this success continues, who knows where it will end up? In its second week out, "Kyrie" jumps six places from #8 to #2.
1. YFN Lucci Feat. 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne - Key To The Streets (Remix)
I can't remember another time in my Top Tracks tenure when a song this old has hit #1 for the first time. This "Key To The Streets" remix dropped back in the middle of September, but is only just now hitting the top of our chart. YFN's stock really rising that rapidly? In its tenth week out, the "Key To The Streets" remix rises three spots from #4 to #1.
