When Lil Wayne announced that he had "signed a deal" with Jay Z last night, it was assumed that the rapper had found some sort of alternative to his current record deal-- whether it be through Roc Nation or Tidal.
Unfortunately, his statement ("I just signed a deal with my motherfucking idol, Jay Z") was not nearly that exciting. According to the rapper's manager, Cortez Bryant, Weezy was simply reiterating his new status as a co-owner of Tidal.
"The Internet and blogs took his words out of context," he told Billboard. "When Wayne was speaking about the partnership with Jay Z, he was speaking about his new deal as an artist owner with Tidal."
While things are hardly ironed out with Cash Money, Wayne's partnership with the streaming service should still mean more new music, and hopefully the release of the rapper's anticipated, Free Weezy Album. As for Tha Carter V, it's probably still in Birdman's hands.
