Students at New Jersey's High Tech High School are damn lucky. Not only do they have the coolest English teacher in the world, who taught lessons around Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, but this week, Lamar himself showed up to talk to the kids and perform.
These two events are directly linked, as it was Brian Mooney's use of the album in class that inspired Kendrick to pay the school a visit. The rapper started things off by sitting in on some poetry lessons from students, providing feedback on each. After that, he performed TPAB highlight, "Alright" for the school.
It seems K-Dot took as much away from the experience as the students did. “When I talk to kids, I’m really listening,” he told the New York Times. “When I do that, we have a little bit of a bigger connection than me being Kendrick Lamar and you being a student. It’s almost like we’re friends. Because a friend listens.”
