We haven't heard much from Doja Cat in recent days. The Hot Pink artist was at the center of controversy after she was accused of befriending people online who were racist, speaking negatively about black people, complaining about her 4C hair, and dropping the n-word with a hard "er" at the end. She later distributed a formal apology, but then hopped on Instagram Live to say that it was penned by her team and it wasn't what she wanted to say.
The Live ended up getting her into more trouble with the public that the first go-round, and since that time, Doja Cat has remained hush-hush and offline. Then, on Friday (June 5), the singer resurfaced with a message about Breonna Taylor, the EMT who was shot and killed in her home by Lousiville police back in March after they stormed in with a no-knock warrant in plainclothes and, reportedly, without announcing that they were the law.
June 5 marked what would have been Breonna Taylor's 27th birthday, and while her killers haven't been charged or arrested, the public is campaigning for justice in her case. Many celebrities have taken to social media to show their support, including Doja Cat. "Happy birthday to the beautiful Breonna Taylor, who would have been celebrating her 27th birthday today. I am donating $100,000 to Justice For Breonna Taylor Fund #BIRTHDAYFORBREONNA and I am inviting you all to honor and celebrate her with me by donating whatever you can and signing her petition - the link is in my bio," she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post.
"I’m urging all my friends, family, fans, and colleagues to please donate whatever you can to her cause and to ALL the foundations that are helping us bring justice and demand change!" Doja Cat continued. "We are all in this together and together is the ONLY way to demand change for a better world. #BLACKLIVESMATTER #JUSTICEFORBREONNA #BIRTHDAYFORBREONNA."
