Actor Hafthor Bjornsson, known for his role as The Mountain on Game of Thrones, has set a deadlift world record.
While live-streaming, the strongman lifted 1,104 pounds at Thor’s Power Gym in Iceland on Saturday. Eddie Hall is the previous world record holder, having lifted 1,102 pounds in 2016.
Bjornsson stands at 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 452 pounds.
On Instagram, he said, “I have no words. What an amazing day, one I will remember for the rest of my life. I said I was coming for it, and once I set my mind on something, I’m a dog with a bone. I want to give a huge shoutout to my family, friends, coaches, fans, sponsors and haters, all of whom helped this lift be possible.” He goes on to thank his fans and promote his YouTube channel and website.
Bjornsson won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018. He's also ranked among the top 3 for every year since 2012.
The actor took over the role as The Mountain during season 4 of Game of Thrones. He would stay for the role throughout the remainder of the show's run.
