Nicki Minaj talks about going back to her hip-hop roots in her new music, as well as her recent change of appearance.

Nicki Minaj has been busy promoting the new film "The Other Woman", in which she has a role alongside Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Leslie Mann. Nicki Minaj attended the movie premiere last night in California (the film hits theatres on April 25th), and she's also been doing interviews for the flick. While talking to MTV News during promo for "The Other Woman", the rapper discussed her recent change in appearance, as you may have noticed that lately she's been opting for a more natural look rather than the colorful and over-the-top appearance she's been known for.

Nicki discussed the decision to go back to her roots, and how it will translate to her new music. "It's not a make over, it's just coming full circle", she said of the change.

"I went so far to the other side that there's only one place to go from there," Minaj said to MTV. "You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, 'Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing absolutely nothing will shock them even more.'"

Nicki translated this change to the music she's been doing, "In terms of the music, with "Chi-raq" and "Lookin Ass", yeah, they're definitely back to my hip-hop roots. And I don't think it's something that I'm necessarily trying to do. As soon as I started working on my new album, that's just the songs that I've been writing."

She continued, "I'm actually putting a song out, maybe in a week and half, and it's nothing like "Chi-raq" or "Lookin Ass", and I don't want people to think that I'm only doing that kind of music either, I'm just going to do what my heart tells me to do."

As for whether or not the YMCMB first lady will repeat a pop-driven track like "Super Bass"? Nicki responds: "Hell no."
