Sony launches a new division solely dedicated to the "Retro Gamer" in all of us.

If you're a gamer, you've likely entertained a discussion on video game adaptations at some point in your life. The truth is: production houses seldom get it right. Tomb Raider adapted well to the big screen, but how much of that success is owed to Angelina Jolie's unending appeal. The original Mortal Kombat film hits a certain nostalgic nerve, but is it actually any good? Try playing it front to back on mute. Not exactly the same bone-chilling experience that's lodged in your memory from childhood.

That's why Sony has taken it upon themselves to launch a studio solely dedicated to producing films and TV shows based on their Playstation catalog. The idea came together in the boardroom as Sony execs were lamenting the profits they most likely lost in the past - by licensing out to their popular gaming titles to the highest bidder.

"Instead of licensing our IP out to studios, we felt the better approach was for us to develop and produce for ourselves," said PlayStation Productions director Asad Qizilbash in a statement issued to the press. "One, because we’re more familiar, but also because we know what the PlayStation community loves."

Considering they have Sony Pictures to lend a hand in the background, the brand stands so much from this initiative. Put yourself in the fantasy chair for just second. If you were the head of Sony's newly-minted conceptual team, what PlayStation relics would you line up for the silver screen/big screen?
