The fashion world is mourning the loss of Karl Lagerfeld today since the famous designer sadly passed at the age of 85. Tons of fashion moguls, singers, rappers and more who have been privileged enough to work with the man behind Chanel, or be in his presence, have shared kind words about their fallen friend.
"We lost a true legend! You were such an inspiration to the world! You shot my first fashion shoot & I was so nervous to work w such an icon! The world is so much chicer because u existed! I’m beyond honored to have had the opportunity to work w u. U are so loved & will be missed," Kim Kardashian wrote of Karl.
Chanel has now announced who will take over Karl's role, one that he successfully maintained for 36 years. According to Fashionista, Virginie Viard has been announced as the leading lady and she's familiar with the role since she's worked with Karl for many collections. Virginie has also taken bows at the end of many fashion shows with Karl by her side.
"The greatest tribute we can pay today is to continue to follow the path he traced by – to quote Karl – ‘continuing to embrace the present and invent the future’,” an offical statement by Chanel reads on Instagram. "Virginie Viard, Director of CHANEL’s Fashion Creation Studio and Karl Lagerfeld’s closest collaborator for more than 30 years, has been entrusted by Alain Wertheimer with the creative work for the collections, so that the legacy of Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld can live on."
