Between the R. Kelly scandal and the Jussie Smollett story, 2019 is off to a strange start. Smollett's been under fire over the past few days after police said that they believe Smollett staged his own attack. Evidence suggests that this is a possibility and many people who've stood by the actor have been distancing themselves. Cardi B even suggested that he "fucked up Black History Month." Despite the media reports, his siblings are standing by his side and pitting the blame after the media.
Jocquis Smollett and Jurnee Smollett Bell showed support online for their brother Jussie amid allegations that he staged his own attack. They shared a post on Instagram which featured a photo of Malcolm X along with a quote from the civil rights leader.
"This is the media, an irresponsible media. It will make the criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal,” the quote reads. “If you aren’t careful, the media will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”
Jocquis previously voiced his support on Instagram earlier this month following news that the actor was attacked.
"This is nothing new. These sort of scare tactics and domestic terrorism have been used by cowards for centuries in an effort to control, silence, and dampen the lives of marginalized peoples. Surviving is in JUSSIE’S BLOOD and his light nor that of our family’s shall be dimmed," he wrote along with a statement from the Smollett family.
