Jay Ellis has a lawsuit to respond to.

Issa Rae's HBO series Insecure has become a cult favourite for a lot of people. The show is loosely based on Issa's life and follows the trials and tribulations of dating, working, friendships and more. For those who know, Jay Ellis stars as Lawrence in the show, Issa's boyfriend before they become exes. Season two ended with us assuming that Lawrence would no longer have a place in the show and Issa even kind-of confirmed that Jay wouldn't be apart of the show anymore.

“We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations,” she previously explained. “You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”

For those who watched season three, you know that Jay actually did come back into the show and The Blast now reports that the latter is why Jay is getting sued by Luber Rolkin Entertainment for allegedly prolonging his contract without them. The suit states how the entertainment company is responsible for getting Jay the job and they were supposed to get 10% of his compensation. Jay apparently updated his contract with HBO to get more money and then fired most his team including Luber Rolkin who believe he is letting people go in a “transparent and intentional effort to avoid paying commissions clearly due and owing to multiple parties.”

Luber Rolkin wants the 10% from seasons 1-2 and believes he deserves a cut from season 3 and beyond. The exact amount the company is asking for is unknown since they are unaware of the details surrounding the new contract Jay signed for season three.
