We're getting closer and closer to the season three premiere of Issa Rae's beloved HBO show Insecure that arrives on August 12th. Sneak peeks so far have shown us that the batch of episodes will see Issa embark on a serious apartment hunt, and now we've found out that one of the main characters will probably not be very present in the new season.
Issa and producer Prentice Penny hit up Insecure Fest in L.A. recently and gave hints that Jay Ellis (who plays Lawrence) may not be showing face in the new season. “We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations,” Issa said, via Vulture. “You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”
Prentice sounds off on the same sentiments as Issa, adding: "At the end of the day, we’re always trying to tell stories that are true and authentic. We were in the writers room and we were initially talking about, Okay, well what is he doing?… Well, he’s not in her life right now. It was hard to make stories around that.”
Hints at possible new suitors for Issa was also talked about. "Or guys?… Guys! Maybe. I think people will be rooting for her like they kind of always do, to make the right choice," Prentice added. Peep the latest teaser below.
