Mitchell won't defend dunk contest crown in Charlotte.

Participants for the 2019 NBA Dunk Contest in Charlotte have not yet been revealed but we know at least one high-flyer who will not be taking part in the festivities.

According to Utah Jazz reporter Eric Woodyard, the league's reigning Dunk Contest champ, Donovan Mitchell, has decided he won't be defending his title next month.

Mitchell, 22, outlasted Larry Nance Jr. in last year's contest with an ode to Vince Carter in the final round.

“I loved doing the dunk contest last year and it was a ton of fun, but I also know it takes a lot of focus, practice and preparation,” Mitchell told the Deseret News. “Right now, my mind is really on helping my team make a deep run (in the) second half of the season. I’m excited though for the weekend, I’m going to be able to be a part of some great events.”

The NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte will take place from February 15-17 with the Dunk Contest, Three Point Contest and Skills Challenge taking place on All-Star Saturday, February 16. Participants for the three events have not yet been announced.

As for the actual All-Star game, voting for fans, players and media will conclude on Monday, January 21. The All Star starters, and captains, will be announced January 24 on TNT. Reserves will be announced on January 31. Click here to check out the latest fan voting returns and details about the televised draft.
