Carmelo Anthony has not appeared in an NBA game in more than two months, but he is expected to return to the court in the coming weeks as the NBA trade deadline approaches on February 7.
According to The Athletic's Sam Amick and Joe Vardon on Friday, Melo "has multiple options available and is expected to pick one before the February 7 trade deadline."
It remains to be seen if the Rockets find a trading partner for Anthony, or if they opt to release him giving him a chance to sign with a team of his choosing, but it does appear that the next domino is going to fall in the very near future.
Anthony, 34, has not played since November 8 after the Houston Rockets announced that they'd be parting ways with the 16-year veteran. In 10 games with the Rockets this season, Melo averaged a pedestrian 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in a career-low 29.4 minutes per night.
In December, Joe Vardon reported that LeBron James was in support of his longtime friend joining the Lakers roster as a contributor on the young Lakers roster.
The New York Times' Marc Stein reported that the Los Angeles Lakers were "staunchly against the idea of adding Carmelo Anthony" coming into the season but since the Michael Beasley signing has not paid off they could be willing to bring the 10-time All-Star on board.
