Lakers a potential landing spot for Melo?

The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as a potential landing spot for Houston Rockets forward Carmelo Anthony. According to The Athletic's Joe Vardon, LeBron James believes his longtime friend could be a contributor on the young, and injury-riddled, Lakers roster.

The New York Times' Marc Stein reports that the Lakers were "staunchly against the idea of adding Carmelo Anthony" coming into the season but since the Michael Beasley signing has not paid off they could be willing to bring the 10-time All-Star on board.

The Lakers (15-9) are already without Rajon Rondo, who is dealing with a hand injury, as well as Brandon Ingram, who recently suffered a sprained left ankle that will keep him on the sidelines for at least a few games.

Anthony, 34, has not played since November 8 after the team announced that they'd be parting ways with the 16-year veteran. In 10 games with the Rockets this season, Melo averaged a pedestrian 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in a career-low 29.4 minutes per night.

While the Rockets look to find a landing spot for Carmelo that suits both parties, it's worth noting that he can not be traded until December 15, because he signed with Houston as a free agent this off-season.

The Rockets will host the Lakers on Thursday, December 13 in a nationally televised game airing on TNT at 8pm ET.
