Rajon Rondo came under fire on Wednesday night when he was caught sitting in some vacant courtside seats in the middle of the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Denver Nuggets. Some criticized Rondo for not sitting with his teammates and creating even more division within the locker room. According to ESPN, Rondo met with Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and President Magic Johnson to discuss what occurred. In the end, they agreed not to fine Rondo, but also laid down the law on what is and isn't allowed.
"They notified me that it was a league rule that you can't sit there," Rondo told ESPN. "I wasn't aware of it. But now I know going forward where I need to be."
Rondo also said that he had no ill intentions by sitting in the vacant seats and that it's a regular occurrence for him.
"I've done it (before)," Rondo explained. "I've sat everywhere but the bench more than 40 seconds. But I guess when things aren't going well you can kind of continue to make up stories. But I never thought it was a big deal. I was just in my head contemplating the game. That's kind of what I do. I don't think I have to explain myself as far as my relationship with the team, the players and the coaches. That shouldn't even be discussed."
The Lakers are currently 11th in the Western Conference with a record of 30-35.
