New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry went out on a limb Today by declaring that as long as he remains a member of management, the team will not trade power forward Anthony Davis at any cost.
"We're not trading him," Alvin told the media. "I can say that to the world. We're not gonna trade him, no matter what. That's not an option. It doesn't matter what anybody says or does. We're not trading Anthony Davis."
As you might recall, trade rumblings picked up yesterday afternoon when LeBron James outlined his interest in acquiring Anthony Davis for the revamped Los Angeles Lakers project. "That would be amazing, like, duh. That would be incredible," told ESPN's Dave McMenamin in a one-on-one conversation. Let's say Anthony Davis was intrigued by the prospect of joining LeBron in LA, if Alvin Gentry is true to his word, it would have to wait until his player option kicked in for the 2020-2021 NBA Season. If that were the case, the New Orleans Pelicans would be unwise not to trade AD for assets before he can leave at his discretion. With that said, Gentry has no other option but to demonstrate a strong grip over his employable roster. You can't let the vultures hack into the mainframe when you've got your own mouths to feed.
