Taking a break from both the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, the two comic book giants experienced huge years. Usually, you can learn a lot about how the film adaptations will come about by reading the comic books. People are trying to gather information about Avengers: Endgame in the books right now, figuring out anything they can about costumes, weapons, and more before the official premiere date. With the films at an all-time high, both Marvel Comics and DC Comics ended 2018 with impressive feats.
According to CBR, both Marvel and DC have reasons to celebrate after official calculations determined Marvel was the top comic book publisher of 2018 while DC had the best-selling individual comic book. Marvel Comics has had a leg-up on its competition for years and Stan Lee's iconic heroes were not let down last year, controlling 40.4% of the market. With DC, their success came in the form of Action Comics #1000, which was the top-selling comic of the year.
As expected, titles from Spider-Man, Batman, Venom, Fantastic Four, and others ruled the most purchased stories of 2018. With all the fanfare surrounding superhero movies, it should come as no surprise that DC Entertainment and Marvel Comics are the two strongest forces in the game. Check out the full stats here.
