Iconic actress Julie Andrews has delivered a number of artful and award-winning performances in her career. The regal English performe portrayed Mary Poppins in the 1964 film adaptation of the story, Maria von Trapp in The Sound Of Music, and Clarisse Renaldi, the grandmother Queen dowager in the hit Disney film, The Princess Diaries. The well-loved Dame will soon lengthen her list of filmography with a cameo in the highly anticipated DC superhero movie: Aquaman.
According to recent reports, Andrews will be voicing a "mythic" character named Karathen. Karathen has been described as an “undersea creature that holds the key to Arthur Curry’s (Jason Momoa's character) quest to unite the Atlantean and surface worlds.” The film's producer, Peter Safran, told Entertainment Weekly that the goal was to secure “a classic British actress” for the role —a criterion that is perfectly fulfilled by Andrews. “When we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer,” Safran said. He went on to explain that the Sound of Music actress' voice will be “somewhat digitally altered,” to better suit her character, a majestic, aquatic creature who possess magical powers.
It's safe to say that the decision to cast Andrews has delighted fans across the globe. Check out some of the reactions below.
