Joel Embiid loves to talk trash, even in defeat.
Following last night's 133-132 loss to the Detroit Pistons, Embiid continued his ongoing rivalry with Pistons center, Andre Drummond, who was ejected late in the fourth quarter. Drummond was hit with his second technical foul and tossed with 42.8 seconds remaining in the game when his hand made contact with Embiid's face while they were tied up.
Embiid celebrated the moment by gesturing Drummond back to the locker room and he continued his trolling during the post-game press conference.
"I think I own a lot of real estate in his head," Embiid told reporters (H/T ESPN). "We lost, so I'm not supposed to talk trash, but he knows damn well that he can't guard me. But that was a team effort. You know, Blake [Griffin] had a good game, and they were able to pull it off, so we got another one tomorrow, and we got to do a better job."
Drummond did not speak to the media last night but he did issue a statement on twitter about Embiid "owning a lot of real estate in his head": "Lol does he? If that’s so he wouldn’t be so excited to have me off the floor? Think about it that’s a silly statement ! I’ll take the W though enjoy flight home #Emmyaward winning actor"
Embiid, who finished with 33 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, was seen calling out Drummond during the game and saying, "he can't guard me" after a pair of made baskets against the Pistons' center. That said, Philadelphia had no answer for Blake Griffin, who posted a career-high 50 points, with 14 rebounds and six assists, in the victory.
