The Los Angeles Lakers are scrambling to put together a trade package that will pave the way for Kawhi Leonard to join the team, but as of now the San Antonio Spurs have not been impressed with what's on the table. Particularly, the Spurs are said to be "uninterested" in one of the Lakers' most young assets, point guard Lonzo Ball.
According to Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post, "The question now is whether the Lakers even have enough to convince the Spurs to send Leonard there. With San Antonio believed to be uninterested in Ball, the Lakers have three other intriguing young players—Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart—plus their future first-round picks to include in a deal."
In his rookie season, Ball averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 assists and 6.9 rebounds per game, but the Spurs are reportedly all-in on their own young point guard, Dejounte Murray. Not to mention, LaVar Ball wouldn't exactly mesh with head coach, Gregg Popovich.
If the Lakers and Spurs do strike a deal centered around Leonard, ESPN reports, "L.A. could have to surrender a combination of former first-round picks -- from Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart -- and future first-round picks and perhaps restricted free agent Julius Randle in a sign-and-trade agreement."
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have the assets that the Spurs most covet in a potential blockbuster trade for Kawhi. That said, Wojnarowski notes that the Celtics are "extremely cautious" due to the uncertainty with Leonard's health and his strong desire to play for the Lakers.
Other teams that have made offers for Leonard include the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN.
