There is no shortage of NBA teams that are interested in acquiring San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard, it just remains to be seen which team can come up with the best package for the 26-year old All-Star. Last week, it was reported that Leonard "has grown uncomfortable with the Spurs organization" and that he is eyeing a trade to Los Angeles, preferably to the Lakers.
Of course, the Spurs are not at all required to grant Leonard a trade to a team of his choosing, and the Lakers aren't the only squad inquiring about a potential deal.
According to Cleveland.com's Terry Pluto, the Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the teams that have made calls to the Spurs about Leonard. That said, the Cavs don't really have the assets needed to strike a deal, especially when you consider what some other teams can offer. Furthermore, it's likely that LeBron James is leaving Cleveland as a free agent this Summer and there's no way Leonard would re-sign after the 2018-19 season without the 4x NBA MVP by his side.
ESPN reports that while Leonard prefers to play for the Lakers, the the Boston Celtics, who reportedly approached the Spurs about a deal for Leonard before the trade deadline, are expected to be a major suitor as well.
ESPN's Kevin Pelton has outlined a scenario where the Lakers can land a monster trio of Kawhi, LeBron James and Paul George this Summer, by signing James and George as free agents and then trading either Lonzo Ball or Brandon Ingram as well as other young players like Kyle Kuzma, to San Antonio.
