In a rare showdown with the media, Frank Ocean chose to speak with GQ to speak on a few issues of personal interest, namely his dangerous love for mezcal, his move to NY off of Spike Jonze's suggestion, and most importantly: his plans for Blonded Radio, his newish platform on Apple Music.
To start things off, Emmett Cruddas ask Ocean to explain the decision to make his Instagram public, after years of reclusiveness, which he answered by handing over the reins to his audience. "I feel like there was dissonance between how I was seen by the audience and where I was actually," he admitted, "So that contributed to the decision to make my Instagram public, for sure."
In summary, Frank credits Spike Jonze with luring him to NY from LA. "I enjoy the energy working project to project in New York that I can get from looking out my window or going downstairs,” he says. “It’s the people, their pace, the unsaid energy." Vegyn, the second of two interviewers on the case, asked Ocean to provide the GQ audience with the musical record he comes back to periodically for eternity: Aaliyah's "At Your Best (You Are Love)."
As for Frank Ocean's musical agenda, or plans for Blonded Radio, he was a little more reserved, focusing instead on the jewelry project he left abandoned in 2018. You can read the full transcript over at GQ - enjoy.
