Not long after Mariah Carey announced her departure from American Idol, Nicki Minaj shortly followed suit. Nicki took to twitter today to officially confirm that she will no longer be a part of the show.
Taking to twitter, Nicki thanked American Idol for what she called a "life changing experience". She says she wouldn't trade it for the world and its time to focus on the music. Producers from the show released a statement on Nicki's exit and it stated,
“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to ‘American Idol’ and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season,” Fox and Idol producers FremantleMedia and 19Entertainment said in a joint statement. “Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”
Nicki is currently focused on working on her third studio album, which she says will mark a return to hip hop. In a recent interview with Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg, Nicki stated “I’ve just been getting back to that place where I was right before I dropped my first album, which is kill everything”.
