It goes without saying that Logic’s “1-800-273-8255” has become one of the most definitive tracks of the past year, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning Grammy nominations for Song Of The Year and Best Music Video.
Nearly a year after its April 2017 release, the song went quadruple platinum in February of this year, once more cementing its success. But, it looks like the track isn’t quite done doing numbers as it recently earned the honor of going five times platinum in this month.
“Damn I went 5 times Platinum today,” the Young Sinatra tweeted on on Thursday, August 23. Although, the track technically earned the esteem earlier in the week on the 20th according to the RIAA.
Since its release, the track which bears the number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) has been a soundtrack to the evolving conversation surrounding mental health, particularly as it relates to teens and young adults.
According to the NSPL, calls to the line rose 27% following the song’s release while visits to their website went from 300,000 to 400,000 over the months that followed.
"Fans that I met randomly, they've said things like, 'Your music has saved my life. You've saved my life.' And I was always like, 'Aw so nice of you. Thanks.' And I give them a hug and shit but in my mind, I'm like, 'What the fuck?' And they're really serious,” Logic once told Genius of the inspiration behind the track. “And they tat shit on their arms and get shit like lyrics that save their life and in my mind, I was like, 'Man I wasn't even trying to save nobody's life.' And then it hit me, the power that I have as an artist with a voice. I wasn't even trying to save your life. Now what can happen if I actually did?"
