Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is ready for his next UFC fight, he's just "waiting on him." In this case, "him" apparently refers to Irish superstar Conor McGregor.
Following Cerrone's submission victory against Mike Perry at UFC Fight Night 139 this past weekend, the 35-year old MMA veteran revealed that the UFC had already approached him about his next fight in the lightweight division, and it was a "very exciting" potential matchup.
“It’s very exciting,” he said. “The guy is very exciting. You’ll like it.”
Exciting is certainly one word that describes Conor McGregor, who is currently serving a suspension as a result of the brawl that ensued after UFC 229 in Las Vegas. McGregor's hearing is set for December. Judging by Cerrone's latest IG post, he's eagerly awaiting the outcome so they can set a date for the fight.
According to MMA Junkie, Cerrone and McGregor have exchanged words at past press conferences, including an instance when Cowboy criticized McGregor for tapping out against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March 2016.
At the time, Cerrone expressed interest in fighting McGregor, though he noted that it was "not going to happen for a long time.”
“I got nothing to say about that (expletive) (expletive) to be honest with you,” Cerrone said (H/T MMA Junkie). “It is what it is. He did run his mouth, but when he sees me face-to-face he’s going to have to – I don’t play that game. When I see him I’m going to check him and see what’s up. I don’t give a (expletive) where it’s at. I’d love to fight the dude, but it’s a fight that’s not going to happen for a long time.”
